Information on procedures to reside in Japan

[ Visa and residence permit ]

A foreign national entering Japan must have a visa, in principle. However, a foreign national entering Japan under designated "short visit" from a country / area that is exempt from ordinary visa requirements does not need a visa.

Short visit without a visa
If you come from countries/areas exempt from visa requirements and are visiting Japan for a short period (maximum 90 days) to conduct market research or take part in business meetings, you can apply to disembark without holding a visa. However, even if the above criteria apply, you must have a visa to conduct activities by which you receive salaries in Japan, or to stay longer than the designated period.
